Smoke-Free Ways to Clear Your Space
Smoke-Free Ways to Clear Your Space
Happy Magickal Monday!
I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend, despite all the craziness going on in the world. As I was spending time with my own family, it occurred to me how important it has been for me to clear my space regularly to keep all the outside energies from flowing into my space.
As an empath, I feel all the anxiety, doubt, and fear floating around, and that has been extra high these past few months. I have found myself saging and using my protective room sprays more often, just to keep my home energies feeling more normal and balanced. There are days I am off the charts with anxiety without any real cause and days I
feel very reactive. While some of these feelings are definitely mine, many of them are not, and I’m sure many of you are experiencing this as well.
While saging is really the “go-to” for clearing a space for most people, there are many who are smoke-sensitive or allergic, who are in a small space, or who are just in search of a replacement for other reasons. I know that if I am clearing my bedroom, it’s important to have very little smoke because my smoke detector is very sensitive. So with that in mind, I wanted to share some alternatives with you here today.
Crystals are a major energy shifter and I have hundreds throughout my home. Some of my favorites for clearing are Selenite, Clear Quartz, and Amethyst. All three of these crystals have clearing and healing properties and are easy on the checking account.
Selenite comes in at the top of the list because it is what we call “self-clearing.” This means it doesn’t absorb and hold onto negative energies the same way other crystals do. Selenite is part of the salt family, so it transmutes energies like any other salt, which tend to be used for banishings, protections, and clearings. Selenite is also striated, which helps energies move through it efficiently and radiates clearing and healing energies into the space around it. ***Selenite is water-soluble, so should never be placed in water.
Clear quarts is also a fabulous choice, but it takes a little more work. Clear quartz is an amplifying stone and can be programmed for any energetic task the practitioner using it needs. It will also hold onto energies, so when using it for clearing, it’s important to clear your stone as soon as you get it. You can do this by running it under cold water, putting it in a bowl of salt overnight, or setting it out under the full moon. Once it has been cleared, sit with it in your hands and imagine it radiating clear and protective energies, and ask it to keep your home clear of all negativity. Your crystal will absorb negative energies, so it’s important to clear it at least once a month. I usually set all my crystals out under the full moon for clearing.
Amethyst is much like clear quartz, but has a softer, healing energy. It is a natural healing crystal and doesn’t hold the same amplifying energies that clear quartz does; however, it will need to be cleared and programmed in the same way.
Sprays are easy to make and work in much the same way as sage. When using a spray, it’s important to have decent air flow in your space, and it helps to use a feather or fan to distribute the spray similar to the way you would fan smoke. This isn’t necessary; however, you will end up with a much wetter area if you choose not to disperse the spray in the air.
There are several types of sprays that can be both made and bought, but two of my favorites are Resurrection Water and Moon Water. Moon Water is made many ways, but the traditional way is to add a teaspoon of salt to a bottle of water, set it out under the full moon, and then bless and consecrate it for the purpose of clearing negative energies. It is important when working with moon energy to be mindful of the sign the moon is in and at what time it reaches peak fullness. I will be covering this more thoroughly in my article, “Moon Water Magick,” which will be available through Patreon Monday, May 18th.
Resurrection Water is made with a plant called, you guessed it, the Resurrection Plant or Rose of Jericho. A desert plant, it is able to go dormant without water for years and comes back to life when water is available again. To make a batch of Resurrection Water, simply place a Rose of Jericho into a basin of clean water and let it soak for 3 days to 3 weeks, based on the desired potency of the water. Give your Rose attention and ask it to infuse the water with its protective and clearing qualities to keep your home protected and free of negativity. When you are done, remove the Rose from the water and allow it fully dry before storing it again. Strain the water to remove any leaf, stem or root pieces, bottle and refrigerate for up to 6 months.
Another popular way to clear negative energies is by changing the vibration of the space you wish to clear. This can be done with metal or crystal singing bowls, drums, or even humming. A traditional vibrational frequency for clearing is a B note, which is aligned with the crown chakra, but clearing your space is a very personal thing, so if another note feels more comfortable to you, it’s best to go with that. My space will be different from yours and what works for me may not work for you. At times I have felt called to use multiple frequencies, either together or separately, to clear a space, depending on the circumstances and energies present.
There are so many ways to keep your space clear of energetic clutter. If you have been called to explore your options for clearing your space, take some time to try a few different ways and see what feels best for you. If you have a favorite way of clearing your space, I would love to hear about it in the comments! Thanks for reading and have a blessed and happy week!
